Janet Belval, a biology teacher at South Windsor High School, has been named Connecticut's Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year. Each year the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) awards one high school Biology teacher from each state with the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award. Mrs. Belval teaches AP Biology, Allied Health, and College Prep Biology courses. She is a founding member of the CT Board of Directors for the Science Olympiad and also coaches and manages Science Olympiad teams. In 2016, she received the Lockheed Martin Excellence in Coaching Award, and she was South Windsor's 2017 Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Belval was nominated for this award by her students and fellow teachers. In her personal essay, she stated, "It is not all about the grades but the learning. I want students to become life-long learners. I want them to feel proud of their work. The content they learn may fade over their high school career, but I know that feeling of accomplishment will stay with them long past my class."

A ceremony honoring Mrs. Belval was held on November 17th at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. Congratulations on this prestigious honor!
