Over the past few years, the State of Connecticut has introduced changes to annual standardized assessments that are administered to students, as required by law.


The Connecticut SAT is the annual state assessment for students in grade 11, and assesses the critical thinking skills students need for academic success.

The Connecticut Smarter Balanced assessments are aligned to Connecticut Core Standards in English language arts/literacy and mathematics, and are administered to students in grades 3-8.

Assessments aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) will be administered to all students in Connecticut at Grades 5, 8 and 11 starting in spring 2019. The tests at each grade assess students’ understanding of the NGSS across the corresponding grade band (3-5, 6-8 and high school). Information about the science standards can be found at
