South Windsor Public Schools - State Assessments

Over the past few years, the State of Connecticut has introduced changes to annual standardized assessments that are administered to students, as required by law.


The Connecticut SAT is the annual state assessment for students in grade 11, and assesses the critical thinking skills students need for academic success.

Smarter Balanced (SBAC) tests aligned with the Common Core are administered to students in grades 3-8 in the areas of English language arts (ELA) and mathematics.

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) field test is required for all students in grades 11, 8 and 5. This test will provide information about student achievement in science.

  • NOTE: Effective Spring 2018, the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) and the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) previously administered to students in grades 5, 8 and 10 in the area of science are no longer administered as the state transitions to the new NGSS science standards.
