Substitute Teachers


Qualifications to be a Substitute Teacher

Substitute Teachers with South Windsor Public Schools receive $85 per day for regular substitute assignments. 

Long-Term Substitute Teachers (substitute teachers who remain in the same assignment for more than 30 days) must be certified in the subject area they are teaching, and receive $263 per day. 

. The minimum qualifications to become a substitute teacher include:

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to function autonomously within guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse population
  • Familiarity and comfort with computer programs
  • Have an interest in student growth and development, be able to follow classroom lesson plans left by the teacher, and have good classroom discipline and management.
  • Must be reliable and have a positive attitude.
