FOX61 Student News Awards

FOX61 recognized three South Windsor students for their news story in the top category at the FOX61 Student News Awards Ceremony.  The students in the Broadcast News class received seven nominations which was more than any other school in Connecticut.

Bringing home the $3500 scholarship award for the Most Compelling Student News Story was Lauren Adamo, Madison Donahue, and Hannah Mitchell. Their story featured "Josie the Therapy Dog" and a program designed to help students learn to read with the help of furry friends.

The awards ceremony held at Goodwin College on June 8 recognized students across Connecticut for their accomplishments in producing compelling news packages. The stories were produced in the Broadcast News class after which they were reviewed by the staff at FOX61 as part of the Student News and HOPE programs (Helping Organizations Promote Education). There were four award categories including Best in Student News Reporting and Writing, Best in Student News Pre and Post Production and Editing, Best in Photography and Lighting, and Most Compelling Student News Story.

Throughout the year, the Broadcast News students have had many opportunities to interact with news anchors and reporters at FOX61 and WFSB, and to also visit the television studios as they learned the process of producing news for broadcast.
