Mission

The mission of the comprehensive school counseling program of South Windsor High School is to promote and enhance the educational experiences of all students through the development of academic, career, and personal/social domains. School Counselors are professional advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement.

Philosophy

The comprehensive school counseling program of the South Windsor High School is designed to address the developmental needs of all students. The program is consistent with the goals established by the South Windsor Board of Education, The American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Standards, and the Connecticut School Counselor Association (CSCA) State Standards. Through a planned and systematic program, each student will develop his/her individual potential in the areas of academic, personal/social, and career development.

The school counseling program is an integral part of the total educational experience, as it provides continuous support, assistance and meaningful growth experiences for all students. The program complements the instructional program by helping students acknowledge their potential and understand their academic and personal strengths and/or weaknesses. School counselors collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents and community members to assist students in the achievement of their goals. An important aspect of the counselor’s role is to insure advocacy and representation for all students, including those who are often underrepresented.
