Our School

Timothy Edwards Middle School is located in South Windsor, Connecticut, just 8 miles northeast of Hartford, the state capital. Grades 6 through 8 are separated into academic teams consisting of 5 - 6 teachers and 100+ students. Team teachers collaborate daily with other staff members, students and parents to create a community of learners.

The educational climate that is fostered by this supportive, collegial environment results in an atmosphere of reflection and discussion where learning is enjoyed, knowledge can be gained and applied, and interpersonal skills successfully developed.

There are approximately 1,100 students and 108 certified staff members at the school. TEMS opened as a Junior High School in March of 1968.  Since its opening, it has undergone a shift to the Middle School Philosophy and is a leader in the middle school community. Timothy Edwards Middle School was chosen as the Middle School of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Schools for the 1992-93 school year. In 2000 the Timothy Edwards was named Middle School of the Year 2000 by the Connecticut Association of Schools. In 2001, Timothy Edwards was named as a Blue Ribbon School of National Excellence. Last year, TEMS was awarded the first ever Technology Award by the New England League of Middle Schools. Over the years professional organizations throughout the country have honored numerous teachers and administrators for their accomplishments. A number of our teachers and administrators regularly present at state, national and international conventions.

A strong curriculum with emphasis on integration of subject matter and utilization of a variety of teaching strategies results in students' development of life-long learning skills and academic success. In addition to our core curriculum, classes are offered for students who have special needs through a variey of venues. In addition, many extra curricular activities are offered which allow students an opportunity to develop an interest and skill in artistic, musical, athletic or other endeavors. More than 10 different field trips and other out of the classrooom experiences enrich our challenging curriculum.
