  • These forms can be picked up in the MAIN OFFICE, THE GYM or DOWNLOADED from the link above
  • Forms can be TURNED IN to the main office.
  • For all sports tryouts, come PREPARED for the activity. This includes any equipment you might need for the sport, as well as a water bottle.

PLEASE NOTE: All home games begin at 3:45 unless otherwise noted.

Academic Eligibility:
Any student who is trying out or auditioning for any Extra-Curricular activity  will need a 2.0 GPA (with no failing grade(s) in order to be considered. The trimester prior to tryouts would determine eligibility.  If the student falls below the required GPA, that student will not be able to tryout/audition for the activity.  A list of students will be sent to guidance one week prior to tryouts. Therefore, a set date will be required for all forms to be handed in.  This cut off date would be required for guidance to review all try-out applicants.

If a student falls below a 2.0 or has a failing report card grade during the activity season,  the student will be put on probation for a period of two weeks and must meet with guidance counselor, teacher(s), parent(s), and coach etc. to discuss a plan of action to improve grade(s).  During this probation period, the student will not be permitted to attend any after school activities that is not related to academics (practices, games, rehearsals, etc.).  If grades improve within the 2 week period the student would be reinstated.  If the student fails to follow through with the plan and or grades do not improve within 2 weeks, the student would be dismissed from the team/activity.

For 1st trimester activities, students will start with a “clean slate.”

Frequently Asked Questions about the Track & Field Team:

Will there be cuts? Why do you make cuts?

Depending on how many athletes try out for the team, we may have to make cuts, down to about 30 boys and 30 girls.

We make cuts at the middle school level to ensure the safety of all athletes on the team- supervision of large numbers of athletes doing 10 different events can be very difficult. With the number we keep, coaches are able to provide more individualized/small group instruction during practice, and meets are kept to a reasonable time frame.

When does practice begin? Where is practice held? How often does the team practice? What time does practice end?

The team practices every day until 4 or 4:30 at TEMS. Occasionally, we will take a bus to the high school to practice on the track.

When are the meets? Where are home meets held? What time are the meets?

We typically have 1-2 meets a week Our home meets are at SWHS, and begin around 3:45-4:00.  Home meets wrap up around 5:30. We do not have practices or meets during the vacation week.

What schools do you compete against? What time do away meets start?

Away meet are at local schools, such as East Hartford, Manchester, Windsor, Tolland, and Ellington, and start and finish about the same time as home meets.  There is one Saturday commitment, for athletes that are selected to participate in the State Meet.

What events do you compete in?

We compete in the 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 meter runs. We also do 50 meter low hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus. Athletes can also be selected for relay teams, such as the 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay, and 4x800 relay.
