2014 GRADUATION YARD SIGN SALES EXTENDED TO MAY 9

Click here for the form needed to order your 2014 graduation yard signs! The cost of the 18 by 24 inch all weather yard sign (which can be personalized for your grad!) is $20 each, and comes with a wire stake to keep your sign firmly in the ground. All proceeds will benefit SWHS Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).

Please print and complete your form, then return it to SWHS with your cash or check (payable to SWHS SADD) in a sealed envelope marked "Dr. Bombara- SADD." Order forms are due to Dr. Bombara by May 9, 2014. Students or parents may pick up their signs on Thursday, May 29 in the SWHS Media Center from 2-4 p.m.

THE MIND'S EYE LITERARY MAGAZINE IS HERE!

The Mind's Eye Literary Club of SWHS has gone digital. This school year the club has chosen to create an e-zine instead of the typical printed publication or booklet that they have created in the past. The club comprises members who are passionate about writing and about celebrating artists and their work, literary or otherwise. Click on the link to see the creative expressions of SWHS students!

 PROM 2013

Prom tickets will be sold from April 22 through May 3 during lunch in the cafeteria. Tickets are $80 (students and guests). All checks should be made payable to “SWHS”. Review additional prom information here.

SPRING PLAY - "A ROOM WITH A VIEW" - A ROMANCE

The SWHS Drama Department presents A Room with a View, a romance by playwright Cristina Calvit, on May 3rd & 4th at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Young Lucy Honeychurch (Emily Rizza), travels to Italy with her older cousin, Charlotte Bartlett, (Hanna Madler). Will Lucy marry the well-mannered Cecil Vyse (Isaiah Fernandez), or the free-thinking George Emerson (Jason St. Denis)? Tickets are $10 adults, $8 students, seniors, kids under 18 (sold during lunch April 29-May 3)

Sports Information Night, March 28th at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium. This meeting is mandatory for all athletes and a parent(s) who have not yet attended a sports information night during the 2012-13 school year.

 Mind's eye Literary Magazine Coffeehouse tonight! 6:30pm

Check out the Mind's Eye Literary Magazine Coffeehouse Friday evening, 6:30-9 p.m. in the back of the Media Center. There will be a smattering of food and beverages as well as great art to view from this year's Magazine. The evening will feature poets who will read their work, some of which may come from this year's magazine as well as a sampling of musical performances. Wish to come listen? Come on down. Wish to read one of your poems or sing a song? We want you there. All are welcome.

 Culture and Diversity Fair—May 30–31

This Year's Annual Culture and Diversity Fair is set for Wednesday, May 30th, from 8 AM to 2:30 PM, and on Thursday, May 31, from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM. All classes have been invited, but you must sign up to attend during class time. We look forward to seeing you there!"

Drama Club Presents the Spring Comedy: Genie-ology–May 4, 5

The Spring Comedy, Genie-ology by Jerry Rabushka, will be performed Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the SWHS Auditorium. Fifteen talented actors will bring down the house with laughs, sarcasm and irony. The story centers around Asha, a typical teen who accidentally releases a genie who attempts to guide her through some of high school's more exasperating moments. Will Asha get her dream date? Will Sarah, the school snob, continue to torment her? Will Rajiv just give her what she wishes? Come to the show to find out. Tickets on sale the week of April 30th during all lunch waves or see Mrs. White.

Mandatory AP Pre-Admin Session–Wed., April 25

A mandatory AP Pre-Administration Session will be held on Wednesday, April 25th during 3rd period in the cafeteria (immediately following Broken Dreams assembly).  All students who registered to take an AP exam in May must attend this important session. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Wlodarczyk in the school counseling office.

A group of 27 students in French 4 & 5 will be traveling to France during April vacation. They  will stay in the town of Montaigu with the students who were here in October, and they will then  head to Paris with a stop at the famous chateaux of the Loire Valley. Special Presentation for Parents: Internet safety concepts

Tuesday, March 20, 2012 - 7:00 p.m. The mission of Internet Safety Concepts is to help families learn about being safe while using the Internet and other technology. The Internet can be a fun and educational place, but if not used properly or with safety in mind, it can lead to some very serious and dangerous situations.  Scott Driscoll will present information on how parents can help their children make smart choices while using the Internet and today's technology. We hope you’ll join us!

Spring Sports Tryouts Scheduled for March 19

All Spring Sports try-outs are expected to be held on Monday, March 19 (unless otherwise indicated). Student athletes will not be permitted to tryout unless paperwork is in order in the main office. Please click here for details.

Team 177, Bobcats Robotics, is holding their 3rd Annual Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thurs., March 15 in the Cafeteria. Tickets are $10 at the door or $25 for five tickets. Congratulations to Choral Spectrum and Spectrum Band!

 At the Central Mass Show Choir Festival held at Shepard Hill High School, Spectrum received a Gold Medal, and was awarded the Best in Showcase trophy. Spectrum Band once again was awarded the Best Band Award, and senior Sam Nunes was awarded the Best Male Soloist Award. Congratulations crew, performers, and staff!

 Drama Club–Romeo & Juliet–7p.m., Feb. 10-11

SWHS Drama Club presents, Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet – Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the SWHS auditorium. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students/senior citizens. Tickets will be sold to students during lunch waves February 6 – 10, and will be available at the door both nights of the show.

Swhs Memorial Garden dedicated

The Memorial Garden is designed to honor the memory of students who died while attending South Windsor High School and staff who died while in service at the school. Family and friends of those remembered in the Memorial Garden are invited to attend as well as members of the public. Click here for details.

9thGRADE ORIENTATION

 Incoming 9th Grade students are invited to attend SWHS Orientation on Wednesday, August 24 from 8:00 – 12:00. Information packets will be mailed home during the first week of July. Transportation is available upon request. Parents are also invited to a special session in the auditorium from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. 

Senior Day #180–Breakfast and Diplomas, June 17

Friday, June 17 is Day #180 for Seniors. Senior Breakfast celebration and slide show will be held in cafeteria at 9:00 a.m. At 10:30, diplomas will be released only to students present for school on Day #180. RSVP and submit photos for the slide show by Wednesday, June 1, 2011. (click here for full text of announcement

Class of 2011 Senior Videos are now on sale in Room 10. The video covers sports, Prom, memories, school events and much more. Order yours now for only id=mce_marker0.00. Orders can be placed in Room 10 or see one of the Journalism students for information. Copies are limited and when they are gone, there will be no more.

FIRSt ever bike to school day!

On Friday May 13th, the South Windsor Walk and Wheel Ways Committee of the Recreation Department, the SWHS Outing Club and Environmental Sciences Club teamed up to host the first Bike to School Day to be held in Connecticut. Over 80 students and faculty joined together to bike or walk in together early Friday morning!  Photos can be viewed here!

Multi-cultural Fair—June 3, 4

For the past 10 years, SWHS students have been dedicated to spreading the knowledge of many foreign customs and cultures. Every year SWHS gives its community a chance to learn about others while having great fun. Come join us on FRIDAY JUNE 3 and SATURDAY JUNE 4 for fun-filled days where you can appreciate culture through music, dances, games, and more from eighteen countries! See video.

Environmental Club's Earth-a-Palooza—Friday, May 27th

The SWHS Environmental Club will be hosting Earth-a-Palooza on Friday, May 27th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the PAVILION at Nevers Park.  The event will feature a variety of Earth friendly activities and crafts, and hikes through Nevers Park to observe wildlife in our own backyard.  Entry fee is $2, or id=mce_marker with a canned good donation. (Several activities also have a nominal fee.)

Meet with teachers and curriculum specialists to learn more about the progress made this year during late arrival days. Data boards shared with the Board of Education in April will be on display in the cafeteria. Juice and coffee will be served.

33rd Annual K-12 Art Exhibition—April 28–May 24

April 28-May 24, student art work will be on display at the South Windsor Public Library. Drawing and painting in the Friend's gallery, metal work in the 2nd floor showcases, potter's wheel and clay work in the 1st floor showcases.

Race to Nowhere Screening–wed., May 11, 7pm

Tickets for the SWHS drama, "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" are on sale from cast members and from Ms. Laurain in Room 145. They will also be available at the door on Friday and Saturday.

French Students host 5th Annual soirÉe africaine

On December 22 from 6PM -8PM in the HS lobby, French students hosted an evening of African food and live music and raised over $1200 for Doctors without Borders. The evening's highlights included a mancala tournament with a grand prize of an iPod Nano and an exciting raffle. View photos here. Donations can still be made at this website.

Veterans visit Us History and Government classes

Veterans Day at SWHS began with a sunlit ceremony honoring those who served. Veterans of wars in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan participated in a ceremony and visited classes to share their experiences with students. View slide show.

FBLA Raising money for Toys for Tots

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is holding a fundraiser to raise money for Toys for Tots. We are selling maroon Bobcat carabiner key holders, for $1. If you would like to help out kids in need of gifts this holiday season, see Mrs. Barrett, Ms. Festi, or FBLA students during lunch on 12/15 and 12/16.

The results interpretation session for those who took the ASVAB will be NEXT MONDAY DECEMBER 6 at 8:00 in the Media Center. Please come to the School Counseling Office this week for a pass.

Seussical the Musical – Nov. 18-20

This year’s annual musical production from the South Windsor High School Drama Department is “Seussical the Musical,” a lively and entertaining amalgamation of many of Dr. Seuss’s most famous books. Shows are Thursday – Saturday, November 18 – 20 at 7:00 p.m., plus a 1:00 matinee on Saturday. Tickets are $8 for students/seniors and $10 for adults, and can be purchased in the main office at the high school between 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. All pre-ordered tickets will be available at the will call box on show night.

SWHS Celebrates National French Week

National French Week increases awarenss of the French language in the work place and around the world. Student led activities include a raffle, T-shirts, and daily factoids.

Blood Drive collects 68 units saves 204 lives

Thanks SWHS for supporting the blood drive yesterday. The hard work of the volunteers and the great donors made the drive a huge success. We were able to collect 68 units which was over our goal and that translates to 204 lives saved! Way to go SW! View Slide Show

 Model United Nations students traveled to New York City on November 4th to visit and interview the permanent missions SWHS students are representing at this year's World Affairs Council simulation.

spanish classes treated to guest speakers

Kathryn Simison of South Windsor and a Spanish major at Holy Cross University, and Pablo Castro Rodriguez of Spain, spoke to Spanish students about the culture of La Coruña, Galicia in Spanish, of course. A Q&A session followed and it was impressive to hear our students speak Spanish!

SWHRC Celebrates Diversity – Saturday, October 30

South Windsor Human Relations Commission Celebrates the Diverse Faces of the Community, Saturday, October 30 from noon to 4:30 pm at the Community Center, 150 Nevers Road. Food, Arts, Crafts, Games, Dances, Music and More. Details.

College Fair – Friday, October 22

Friday morning, Oct. 22nd is SWHS annual college fair. We are expecting over 100 colleges/vocational schools/military branches admission representatives to meet and talk to our students. Sophomores (Per. 1), juniors(Per. 2) and seniors(Per. 1,2 or 3, ending @9:30) will be able to participate in this important program. SWHS students and teachers now have their own google docs and sites in a private domain. Click on the google logo and log in with your SWHS user id and password and start editing, sharing and creating in the world of Web 2.0 tools.
