CAPT TEST SCHEDULED FOR FRI., MARCH 20 AND MON., MARCH 23
On March 20 and 23, ALL sophomores at South Windsor High School will be taking the science portion of the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT). In order for Juniors to meet their graduation requirements, they must meet proficiency on this assessment. If they did not meet the requirements their Sophomore year, they will also be scheduled to re-take the test.
All CAPT assessments will begin promptly at 7:25 a.m. Regular busing will be available for all students, and the regular school day (classes) will begin each day after the administration of CAPT, according to the regular 90 minute delay schedule.
ABSENCES DURING CAPT: During testing, all students who are absent will be required to make-up the specific sections they have missed.
WEATHER DELAYS DURING CAPT: During the CAPT testing period, if school is closed or there is a 90 minute delay due to inclement weather, the scheduled assessment will be given the next school day.
Parents should also note that the school is not open for appointments with school counselors or administrators during the morning CAPT testing sessions. If you have an emergency, please contact the school’s main office at (860) 648-5000 or the school counseling office at (860) 648-5003.

AP AND OTHER COLLEGE CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES AT SOUTH WINDSOR HIGH SCHOOL
Parents and Students interested in opportunities for earning college credit while still in high school: Please join us on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. (snow date 1/13/15) for an informational session on South Windsor High School’s Advanced Placement Program, UConn Early College Experience (ECE) Program, and other college credit opportunities South Windsor students have through our partnerships with Manchester Community College and Goodwin College. Current AP/ECE/MCC and Goodwin Partnership students as well as those interested in these opportunities should attend. The evening will begin in the Auditorium with an overview of each of these programs and a student panel who will share their experiences. At 7:15 p.m., teachers and curriculum specialists will be available in the lobby to answer questions about each of these specific courses/opportunities. 8TH GRADE PARENT NIGHT
All 8th grade parents are invited to a course selection presentation on Wednesday, January 14th at 6:30 p.m. (snow date 1/15/15) in the SWHS auditorium. Parents will be given detailed information on the course selection process and what you can expect as your student transitions to their freshman year. This presentation will last less than one hour.

2014 GRADUATION YARD SIGN SALES EXTENDED TO MAY 9

The cost of the 18 by 24 inch all weather yard sign (which can be personalized for your grad!) is $20 each, and comes with a wire stake to keep your sign firmly in the ground. All proceeds will benefit SWHS Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).
Please print and complete your form, then return it to SWHS with your cash or check (payable to SWHS SADD) in a sealed envelope marked "Dr. Bombara- SADD." THE MIND'S EYE LITERARY MAGAZINE IS HERE!
The Mind's Eye Literary Club of SWHS has gone digital. This school year the club has chosen to create an e-zine instead of the typical printed publication or booklet that they have created in the past. The club comprises members who are passionate about writing and about celebrating artists and their work, literary or otherwise. Click on the link to see the creative expressions of SWHS students!

SPRING PLAY - "A ROOM WITH A VIEW" - A ROMANCE
The SWHS Drama Department presents A Room with a View, a romance by playwright Cristina Calvit, on May 3rd & 4th at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Young Lucy Honeychurch (Emily Rizza), travels to Italy with her older cousin, Charlotte Bartlett, (Hanna Madler). Will Lucy marry the well-mannered Cecil Vyse (Isaiah Fernandez), or the free-thinking George Emerson (Jason St. Denis)? Check out the Mind's Eye Literary Magazine Coffeehouse Friday evening, 6:30-9 p.m. in the back of the Media Center. There will be a smattering of food and beverages as well as great art to view from this year's Magazine. The evening will feature poets who will read their work, some of which may come from this year's magazine as well as a sampling of musical performances. Wish to come listen? Come on down. Wish to read one of your poems or sing a song? We want you there. All are welcome.

This Year's Annual Culture and Diversity Fair is set for Wednesday, May 30th, from 8 AM to 2:30 PM, and on Thursday, May 31, from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM. All classes have been invited, but you must sign up to attend during class time. We look forward to seeing you there!"
Drama Club Presents the Spring Comedy: Genie-ology–May 4, 5
The Spring Comedy, Genie-ology by Jerry Rabushka, will be performed Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the SWHS Auditorium. Fifteen talented actors will bring down the house with laughs, sarcasm and irony. The story centers around Asha, a typical teen who accidentally releases a genie who attempts to guide her through some of high school's more exasperating moments. Will Asha get her dream date? Will Sarah, the school snob, continue to torment her? Will Rajiv just give her what she wishes? Come to the show to find out. Mandatory AP Pre-Admin Session–Wed., April 25
A mandatory AP Pre-Administration Session will be held on Wednesday, April 25th during 3rd period in the cafeteria (immediately following Broken Dreams assembly). All students who registered to take an AP exam in May must attend this important session. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Wlodarczyk in the school counseling office.
A group of 27 students in French 4 & 5 will be traveling to France during April vacation. They will stay in the town of Montaigu with the students who were here in October, and they will then head to Paris with a stop at the famous chateaux of the Loire Valley. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 - 7:00 p.m. The mission of Internet Safety Concepts is to help families learn about being safe while using the Internet and other technology. The Internet can be a fun and educational place, but if not used properly or with safety in mind, it can lead to some very serious and dangerous situations. Scott Driscoll will present information on how parents can help their children make smart choices while using the Internet and today's technology. We hope you’ll join us!

At the Central Mass Show Choir Festival held at Shepard Hill High School, Spectrum received a Gold Medal, and was awarded the Best in Showcase trophy. Spectrum Band once again was awarded the Best Band Award, and senior Sam Nunes was awarded the Best Male Soloist Award. Congratulations crew, performers, and staff!

The Memorial Garden is designed to honor the memory of students who died while attending South Windsor High School and staff who died while in service at the school. The South Windsor HS College fair will be held on Friday, October 21st from 7:30- 9:00am. Click here for list of Colleges. In addition, all South Windsor students and their parents may attend the following Capital Region High School Consortium College Fairs which are held in the evening, 6:30pm to 8:00pm: October 17th – Glastonbury HS, October 18th – Windsor HS, October 19th – Conard HS(West Hartford).
Incoming 9th Grade students are invited to attend SWHS Orientation on Wednesday, August 24 from 8:00 – 12:00. Information packets will be mailed home during the first week of July. Transportation is available upon request. Parents are also invited to a special session in the auditorium from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Senior Day #180–Breakfast and Diplomas, June 17
Friday, June 17 is Day #180 for Seniors. Senior Breakfast celebration and slide show will be held in cafeteria at 9:00 a.m. At 10:30, diplomas will be released only to students present for school on Day #180. FIRSt ever bike to school day!
On Friday May 13th, the South Windsor Walk and Wheel Ways Committee of the Recreation Department, the SWHS Outing Club and Environmental Sciences Club teamed up to host the first Bike to School Day to be held in Connecticut. Over 80 students and faculty joined together to bike or walk in together early Friday morning! Photos can be viewed here!
Multi-cultural Fair—June 3, 4
For the past 10 years, SWHS students have been dedicated to spreading the knowledge of many foreign customs and cultures. Every year SWHS gives its community a chance to learn about others while having great fun. Come join us on FRIDAY JUNE 3 and SATURDAY JUNE 4 for fun-filled days where you can appreciate culture through music, dances, games, and more from eighteen countries! See video.
Environmental Club's Earth-a-Palooza—Friday, May 27th
The SWHS Environmental Club will be hosting Earth-a-Palooza on Friday, May 27th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the PAVILION at Nevers Park. The event will feature a variety of Earth friendly activities and crafts, and hikes through Nevers Park to observe wildlife in our own backyard. Entry fee is $2, or id=mce_marker with a canned good donation. (Several activities also have a nominal fee.)

33rd Annual K-12 Art Exhibition—April 28–May 24
April 28-May 24, student art work will be on display at the South Windsor Public Library. Drawing and painting in the Friend's gallery, metal work in the 2nd floor showcases, potter's wheel and clay work in the 1st floor showcases.

French Students host 5th Annual soirÉe africaine
On December 22 from 6PM -8PM in the HS lobby, French students hosted an evening of African food and live music and raised over $1200 for Doctors without Borders. Veterans visit Us History and Government classes
Veterans Day at SWHS began with a sunlit ceremony honoring those who served. Veterans of wars in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan participated in a ceremony and visited classes to share their experiences with students. View slide show.
FBLA Raising money for Toys for Tots
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is holding a fundraiser to raise money for Toys for Tots. We are selling maroon Bobcat carabiner key holders, for $1. Seussical the Musical – Nov. 18-20
This year’s annual musical production from the South Windsor High School Drama Department is “Seussical the Musical,” a lively and entertaining amalgamation of many of Dr. Seuss’s most famous books. Shows are Thursday – Saturday, November 18 – 20 at 7:00 p.m., plus a 1:00 matinee on Saturday. Tickets are $8 for students/seniors and $10 for adults, and can be purchased in the main office at the high school between 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. All pre-ordered tickets will be available at the will call box on show night.
SWHS Celebrates National French Week
National French Week increases awarenss of the French language in the work place and around the world. Student led activities include a raffle, T-shirts, and daily factoids.
Blood Drive collects 68 units saves 204 lives
Thanks SWHS for supporting the blood drive yesterday. The hard work of the volunteers and the great donors made the drive a huge success. We were able to collect 68 units which was over our goal and that translates to 204 lives saved! Way to go SW! View Slide Show.

Model United Nations students traveled to New York City on November 4th to visit and interview the permanent missions SWHS students are representing at this year's World Affairs Council simulation.

spanish classes treated to guest speakers
Kathryn Simison of South Windsor and a Spanish major at Holy Cross University, and Pablo Castro Rodriguez of Spain, spoke to Spanish students about the culture of La Coruña, Galicia in Spanish, of course. A Q&A session followed and it was impressive to hear our students speak Spanish!
