COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS
On July 7, 2010, with a unanimous vote, the Connecticut State Board of Education adopted new national academic standards known as the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts/literacy and mathematics that establishes what Connecticut's public school students should know and be able to do as they progress through grades K - 12. Building on the excellent foundation of standards states have laid, the CCSS are a critical step in providing our young people with a high quality education. It should be clear to every student, parent and teacher what the standards of success are in every school. We hope the following information helps you understand the changes you will see and what you can do at home to help your children in the classroom.
The state of Connecticut has recently implemented a new website designed to provide important information regarding the Connecticut Core Standards. Multi-lingual resources include videos, pamphlets, roadmaps and even an online link to Khan Academy for additional instructional support.
