Qualifications to be a Substitute Nurse

South Windsor Public Schools is accepting applications for substitute nurses to provide health services to students in elementary, middle and high school settings. Experience as a nurse substitute in a school setting is preferred, but not required. Excellent per diem rate and working conditions.

The rate of pay is as follows:

  • Registered Nurse: $300/day
  • Licensed Practical Nurse: $250/day

 

Qualifications. The minimum qualifications to become a substitute school nurse include:

  • State of Connecticut Registered Nurse license
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Previous school nursing/substitute nursing experience
  • Ability to function autonomously within guidelines
  • Strong assessment skills, good communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse population
  • Familiarity and comfort with computer programs
  • Must be reliable and have a positive attitude
