Assessment Information

South Windsor Public Schools - State Assessments

The Smarter Balanced (SBAC) assessment in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics will be administered to all students in grades 3 through 8 as part of Connecticut’s summative assessment system. In addition, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) test will be administered to students in grades 5 and 8.

Based on State recommendations, we are encouraging all distance learners to come to school to participate in these state assessments, as applicable. Distance learners will test in a separate location, wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Below is the assessment schedule for the South Windsor Public Schools.  Each school will provide more specific dates and information prior to these assessment windows.

Smarter Balanced Testing Window (ELA & Math)

  • Grades 3-5 May 4-18, 2021
  • Grades 6-8 May 11-25, 2021

NGSS Testing Date (Science)

  • Grade 5 May 20, 2021
  • Grade 8 May 27, 2021

As with any assessment, we intend for this to be a positive and productive experience for our students. We also recognize that success for students this year is defined by a broader range of criteria not captured in any standardized assessment, and appreciate students’ resilience in adapting to the challenges brought on by the pandemic.
